On July 7, China Electricity Council released the "China Power Industry Annual Development Report 2023" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). The "Report" shows that from the perspective of power supply structure optimization, power energy efficiency indicators, power carbon emission reduction and new power formats, China's power industry has achieved remarkable results in green low-carbon transformation.

According to Hao Yingjie, Secretary-General of the China Electric Power Union, the report is based on statistics and survey data of the power industry, combined with information provided by enterprises and relevant institutions, and comprehensively reflects the development and reform status quo of China's power industry.

The pace of power supply structure optimization and adjustment was accelerated. According to the report, by the end of 2022, the installed capacity of full-caliber non-fossil energy power generation in the country was 1,275.48 million kilowatts, an increase of 14.0% over the previous year, and the growth rate was 0.6 percentage points higher than the previous year, and the installed capacity of non-fossil energy power generation accounted for 49.7% of the total installed capacity of power generation, an increase of 2.6 percentage points over the previous year. In 2022, China will generate 3,144.3 billion KWH of electricity from non-fossil energy sources, an increase of 8.6 percent over the previous year, accounting for 36.2 percent of the total power generation, an increase of 1.7 percentage points over the previous year.

The control of pollutant discharge has been further improved. In 2022, the standard coal consumption of power supply for coal-fired power plants with 6,000 kilowatts and above will be 300.7 g/KWH, 1.0 g/KWH lower than the previous year. By the end of 2022, about 1.05 billion kilowatts of coal power units in China have reached ultra-low emission limits, accounting for about 94% of the total installed capacity of coal power. In 2022, China's emissions of soot, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides will be about 99,000 tons, 476,000 tons and 762,000 tons, respectively, down 19.4 percent, 13.0 percent and 11.6 percent from the previous year.

Remarkable progress has been made in reducing carbon emissions from electricity. The report shows that in 2022, carbon dioxide emissions per unit of thermal power generation in China will be about 824 g/KWH, 21.4% lower than in 2005; China's carbon dioxide emissions per unit of power generation are about 541 grams/KWH, 36.9% lower than in 2005. By the end of 2022, the cumulative trading volume of carbon emission allowances (CEA) in the national carbon emission rights trading market (power generation industry) had reached 230 million tons, with a cumulative turnover exceeding 10.475 billion yuan. Among them, in 2022, the total turnover of 51 million tons, the total turnover of more than 2.81 billion yuan, and the average comprehensive transaction price of 55.30 yuan/ton.

In addition, the development of new energy storage in China has continued to advance in the fields of policy system construction, technology and equipment research and development, demonstration project construction, and business model exploration; Electric vehicles and charging infrastructure have entered the stage of large-scale development and commercial application; The integrated development of comprehensive energy services such as multi-energy supply, energy efficiency improvement, and value-added services has continued to improve, and new business models such as energy hosting and regional energy operation have emerged. The vigorous development of these new power formats is also a clear proof that China's electric power green low-carbon transformation has achieved remarkable results.
